Yellowstone is one of the most beautiful parts of our country, if not the world. Deciding to visit it is an absolute no-brainer. Deciding whether to eat in, or eat out, while you are there, however, is a more difficult decision. When you book your Yellowstone vacation packages, this is something you need to consider.
Eating out usually means going to a restaurant. In Yellowstone, however, the world is reversed. Eating out means campfire cooking. This is a lot of fun, and the taste is unbelievable if you know what you’re doing. You need to have a little bit of experience of building a fire or setting up a camping stove, for starters. It is also recommended to prep as much as possible before you decide to cook out. Try to already have all your vegetables cleaned, peeled, and chopped before you go, for instance. You can store everything in airtight ziplock bags so that they stay fresh. Chopping vegetables on the ground may seem like a more authentic, rustic experience, it is a lot of hard work that can be avoided with some good preparation.
Eating out in this way really is an experience not to be missed. Imagine sitting around the campfire with your friends or family members, grilling some burgers or making smoars with the kids. But do remember that you are in Yellowstone, which means there are bears as well. Hence, speak to the park rangers before you start cooking about how you can bear proof your camping area and don’t put yourself and your family in danger.
Again, in the normal world, eating in means eating at home. When you’re out camping in Yellowstone, however, it means going out to eat inside. There are quite a few cafes and restaurants in and around Yellowstone Park, so if you don’t want to cook on the fire, find out you forgot essential ingredients, or just fancy a change, you have plenty of choice as well. Plus, it doesn’t mean that you have to go to a generic fast food or restaurant chain either. There are a few eateries in the park where you will be served dishes with ingredients found inside the park. For instance, imaging freshly caught grilled salmon with some organic huckleberry chutney, served with fire roasted red potatoes and a side of asparagus. Finger licking good! Or you could go a bit more out there and opt for elk medallion, with elk hunted in the park itself, drizzled with cabernet sauce and rosemary, with a side of seasoned fresh baby vegetables and wild rice. A dessert of lemon pie with huckleberries really finishes it off. Not only will you be tasting unusual, delicious meals, you will be supporting the local economy of the park as well.
As you can see, there are plenty of options to choose from. And remember that there is nothing stopping you from doing both. Why not eat in one night, and out the next?
