It is the time of year when everyone starts to think seriously about holidays. It is great fun looking through the travel brochures, trying to decide whether you are going to stay at home this year or go abroad.
Once you have decided on your destination, it won’t seem long before the holiday is almost on you and you need to start thinking about what you need to pack. This article offers a list of the most important things that you need to pack for your trip away.
1. Passports and Visas
You should check that you have your passport and that it is up to date at the same time as you book your holiday. Some countries require you to have a travel visa and you need to apply for this a few weeks before your holiday – forget your passport and visa and you could soon be on your way home again.
2. Travel Documents
Don’t forget to pack your travel documents in your hand luggage, this includes air or train tickets and passports and visas, see above. You will need any holiday or hotel reservations and if you have booked a rental car for when you arrive, your driving licence and any paperwork relating to the rental.
Don’t forget to include your travel insurance documents and if you are travelling to Europe your Euro medical card. Make sure that you get at least some of your currency before you set off.
3. Sun Cream
Whether you are holidaying at home or abroad you will need sun cream to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. If you are taking children on holiday then you will need sun cream for kids, usually factor 50.
4. First Aid Kit
It is always a good idea to take a first aid kit. Include plasters and bandages, antiseptic cream and insect sprays. Make sure that you pack any prescription medications that you are taking.
Toiletries and personal items should go in your hand luggage, make sure that anything like hand cream etc is one ml bottles. If you are staying in an apartment they may not provide towels so make sure to take some of your own.
Depending on how long you will be away you will need several changes of clothing and underwear. Don’t forget swimming things and a beach towel and a jacket just in case it turns chilly. Even if you are going somewhere warm and sunny it is always wise to have a couple of sweaters and an umbrella in your luggage.
7. Plug Adaptor
If you are taking any electrical equipment with you, such as a computer, hair dryer or electric shaver, you will need a plug adaptor if you are going abroad.
You will probably need a pen and some paper and any reading material you might want to take. Make sure that your mobile is charged and that you have left flight and accommodation details with a family member before you leave.
