America’s Most Romantic Cities

Are you looking for more romance in your life? Whether you’re rekindling a long-burning flame or just starting out with sparks, you and your partner can enjoy some of the most charmingly beautiful and romantic cities in the United States.

Charleston, South Carolina, for example, is hard to forget. Its dreamy Southern architecture seems straight out of movie set like “Gone With the Wind.” Horse-drawn carts will carry you into another era, before automobile traffic grated nerves and made people late. And Charleston’s antebellum mansions (check out the Wentworth Mansion and it’s Tiffany glass, for example), Southern charm, award-winning restaurants are sure to show you a good time.

Next up, and also in the South, is New Orleans. The sensuality of this city, through its food, its music, and its architecture, will enchant any visitor. Find a romantic corner to listen to some jazz or watch a parade. Walk Bourbon Street and imagine a time long-gone, before technology hurried people. And enjoy a Sunday-afternoon brass-band parade that will make you stand up and cheer for this modern city with an old-fashioned aura.

People leave their hearts in San Francisco for a reason. It’s gorgeous, charming, and fascinating. Any couple, young or old, will enjoy a visit here. Check out Golden Gate Park, Alcatraz, Ghirardelli Square, or maybe get a table at one of the many restaurants and pubs at the Embarcadero. A jaunt on a trolley or a trip to Napa Valley for wine tasting will make your visit complete.

Hawai’i, anyone? Honolulu has sand, water, sun, and surfing, among many other attributes. Maybe you and your partner would enjoy kayaking in the Pacific, or hiking in a rain forest. Or maybe just hanging out on Waikiki Beach holding hands is more your speed. Whatever you decide, Honolulu is a good choice. Watching a sunset on the beach can hardly get more romantic.

New Mexico as a whole isn’t typically considered romantic, but Sante Fe is. Tucked into the forested Sangre de Cristo foothills, this capital city has an old-world charm found few places. Check out the Georgia O’Keefe museum, or walk downtown and appreciate the fact that building codes maintain the city’s well-known and endearing Southwest look. Have a candlelight dinner at one of many specialty restaurants, or maybe visit artists in residence and appreciate fine crafts.

Though rainy, Seattle has many options for couples. There’s the Space Needle and Pike Place Market, naturally, but there’s also a rock and roll museum, major sports teams, and countless fine restaurants that will gladly play live music and serve wine by the bottle. If you and your partner want adventure, though, consider going boating in Puget Sound. Or maybe take a whale-watching tour to see orcas and humpbacks play. Cuddle up together when it gets cool and drizzly.

What romantic list would be complete without Las Vegas. Though some find it tacky, others find it exciting — and a great place to get married on the fly. Cocktail bars, plays, dazzling shows, comedy, and a wide array of bistro fare is all in this small but large Nevada city. Consider strolling down the strip hand-in-hand and watching the Bellagio fountains sway for a final romantic touch.
